Khalil’s Way was inspired by the thousands of children who shared traumatic stories about being bullied in classrooms, locker rooms, and at bus stops, and countless other places.

Khalil’s Way was inspired by the thousands of children who shared traumatic stories about being bullied in classrooms, locker rooms, and at bus stops, and countless other places.

Khalil is an 11-year-old boy who lives in a tough neighborhood and is the victim of a school bully. Khalil is an amazing chess player but struggles to make friends. He’s not the coolest kid you’ll ever meet, plus his mom and dad split up after their family lost everything during Hurricane Katrina.

As parents, educators and concerned citizens, we believe that youth deserve to live in a society where they feel safe, secure, accepted and valued. This means that adults must create schools, playgrounds and other spaces where children are free of teasing, name-calling, harassment, threats and all forms of violence and intimidation.

Khalil’s Way shows boys how to confront bullies, and how to protect themselves in a world where adults cannot always protect them.  That’s why Khalil’s Way was written:  to help youth navigate the tough days that they will have in school, on the playground or even at home.
When you finish reading Khalil’s Way, you may be surprised at how the skinny kid with glasses was able to win over his bully, and deal with his own disappointment of growing up without his father.

Khalil’s Way was specifically written to encourage boys to read. The book is ideal for boys ages 9 & up!
