Racers ER / Fastheads.com has come up with the ultimate big bore top end for your CRF250 R or X 04-09. The perfect Vet weapon! You get The Athena 280cc Kit Complete with gaskets and piston. We prefer the Athena because it runs cooler, does not need case machining, has a much better Nickel Carbide plating and has 11cc more than the cheaper counter parts. We use a special cam grind for the big bore motor offering a very wide power band with plenty of over rev. The big bore kit alone produces mostly bottom end that signs off early. We also use a high quality valve spring kit designed for this cam. In order to give you a very long wearing, fast and reliable package we include a new 09 head fully ported and assembled with our Beryllium Cooper intake seat upgrade and 1mm oversized CrN PVD coated Titanium intake valves that outweats all other. In this service we take a new 09 head and machine it to accept Beryllium Copper Alloy intake seats that are 100% compatible with OEM and aftermarket Titanium valves. This eleminates the premature valve wear and retains the benefits of Titanium intake valves. The 09 head will retro fit all earlier years and has a better port configuration than earlier models for better all round power. We then assemble with new Chromium Nitride Coated 1mm oversized Titanium intakevalves, Black Nitride coated stainless exhaust valves for better exhaust guide wear, springs, spring locators, guide seals, retainers and keepers. The head is fully ported. We do not suggest using heavy stainless intake valves as they loose 2hp, rev slower and have a tendancy to float especially with this cam grind. Our head setup will outwear any stainless kit many times.

Why CRF intake valves wear out. The stock Honda iron powder steel seat inserts are not compatable with Titanium valves. The Beryllium alloy seat inserts we use are nothing less than a modern marvel and greatly improves heat transfer, creates a less abrasive surface and adds a padded effect to the valve surface. They are a also a lot more expensive. Titanium valves weigh 30 to 40% less and can use lighter springs even with radical cams. Titanium is not as hard as stainless valves so they wear much faster unless they have a Chromium Nitride hard coating. The stock CRF Ti intake valves have a very poor oxide hard coating which make the problem even worse. Honda uses stainless valves on the exhaust side because the rocker arm creates lateral movement and needs the stronger valve. The exhaust valves wear less becasue they are stainless and more compatible with the stock seat material.
Why not just use a Stainless Steel valve kit? Current race engines use Titanium valves for a reason. They are two thirds lighter than steel which enables lighter spring pressures. Lighter spring pressures don't hammer the valve against the seat as hard and lighter valves create less inertia. Less recipricating mass increases acceleration and peak RPM. Stainless valves in a race engine reduces the RPM's and creates a power loss that is to great for most competition needs. For trail riding, slower revs, lower top RPM and a few less HP is not a major issue. Stainless wears a lot better on stock seats and even longer with these new alloy seats. We sell a lot of the Stainless kits and new heads with these kit installed in our . Just make sure you start off with a good seat face or they will wear out prematurely.
Remember: Every shim size, .002", is that much worn of your valve and seat face. You will notice afer going 2 shim sizes your adjustments will become increasingly frequent. If your valves are worn out so is your seat surface. A new flat valve surface on a rounded seat results in a very thin contact area resulting in fast wear and less heat exchange. If you just need the seats re-surfaced / cut we offer that in our . If you want an endurance or the Ultimate race head we can build it.
