Handmade Santo Domingo Pueblo Pink Mussel Shell & Multi-stone Mosaic Pendant with Green Turquoise Necklace
This wonderful shell pendant necklace features contemporary mother of pearl, jet, coral and turquoise mosaic on a young, pink fresh water mussel shell with a sterling accent channel. The artist is Chery Crespin of Santo Domingo Pueblo, NM, USA. Turquoise is plentiful in the Southwest USA and has been used for bead and mosaic work by the Southwestern indigenous people for more than 1000 years. This pendant is hung upon strands of amethyst and turquoise handmade beads. It measures 2 1/2" long -- 20" overall including the nugget style turquoise beads, sterling hook/eye clasp. Santo Domingo Pueblo is the last location where this type of shell mosaic overlay is still done regularly -- with amazing results!
