Editorial Note: Don't kid yourself. The M:EX is every bit as good as the Atomic (the Snoop Daddy) that replaced it!!!
The Metron is a new concept that Atomic has rewritten the book for all condition skis. (NOTE: Most of the 2005-06 skis from other companies have increased their sidecuts following the Metron thinking.) Aggressive side-cut is combined with generous surface area to enable the skier to carve some nice arcs on the groomed then blast through the untracked snow with ease on the same run. - Metron geometry has the surface area of a powder ski with the sidecut of a carving ski.
This ski will make big powerful turns in crud, powder and groomed slopes. Turn up the speed and it will snap off quick turns too…blows thru crud…very stable at speed… It has Atomic’s legendary edge hold. The big side cut really lends it self to great carving. Just tip it up on edge and the over sized tip pulls you in to the turn…makes carving automatic. Yet this ski has a really big waist and a large overall foot print giving the M:ex plenty of float for powder.
This is a powerful, fairly stiff ski that will reward aggressive skiers who are willing to put out the energy.
OUR RECOMMENDATION:
We recommend this ski for advancing intermediate thru expert skier, who is somewhat aggressive and puts out some energy while skiing. It is an all-mountain ski that will do groomed slope carving, bumps, powder and crud, with an emphasis on powder and off piste conditions.
Ski Magazine gave the M:EX a "Gold Medal". Here's what they had to say,"Atomic saw Easterners ski one ski at their home hills, then demo something completely different on trips out West. Couldn't one ski do it all? That's the M:Ex's mission, and it comes equipped with the sidecut and torsional rigidity you need for arcing on hardpack, plus the width and surface area required for soft snow. No surprise, then, that the M:Ex led the Freeride pack in Stability at Speed. Or that it lost ground in deep snow to more powder-specific constructions with straighter sidecuts. But the M:Ex is impressive in its versatility and a credible candidate for the elusive one-ski quiver. Howard calls it burly and comfortable, powerful in crud."
We suggest the Atomic Neox 412 bindingwith this ski. At thefantastic price of $169.95! (with the purchase of a ski.) This is Atomic's high preformance binding which normally retails for $325.
