On March 14, 1995 cosmonauts Vladimir Dezhurov and Gennady Strekalov and Astronaut Norman Thagard launch aboard Soyuz TM-21 on the first joint mission to the Mir Space Station.
During the mission, the Spektr science module was launched to Mir, with more than 1,500 pounds of research equipment from the U.S. and other countries.
