SHINGANIST is a fresh new book, featuring the works of Usugrow, Mozyskey, Toshikazu Nozaka, Bene and Jun Kaneko. Although the history of punk rock, hip hop, skateboarding and graffiti came from America, these artists who were all born and raised in Japan, got inspired by creative imported culture. Although their art is often grouped with "street art," there is a nature extracted from each influence and a natural style that they've looked back at deeply from everyday life in Japan. This is a book of drawings paintings and sketches that gives a greater understanding of all that is Shinganist. by Shinganist

We usually don't make a habit of carrying logo tees, but something like this is such an exhibition of skill on its own and also represents such a skill-heavy portfolio that it can stand on its own two. The front print on this black tee is a stylized white ink rendition of the word SHINGANIST spelled out in a more free flowing cursive version of USUGROW's unique hand style. The smaller upper back print features just the "S" of the word, which also represents a shorter version of the band of artists' logo. by Shinganist

A bandana adorning skull head tips backward as the stems of two roses emerge from his eyesockets. His neck tat and the script below him both read SCRATCH & GRIND in Japanese artist USUGROW's trademark hand stylings. An additional print on the upper back makes sure your cypher is complete. by Shinganist

The only white tee in this drop from USUGROW, this one features an elaborate back print that depicts the interconnectedness of Love and Hate in the form of two back to back. The stream of hair from both skulls is braided together and dangles in a diminishing straight line of interweaving black strokes keeping these two locked to one another but always looking in opposite directions. The writing on the skull on the left reads LOVE, while the one on the right bears the word HATE. Bound together, yet gazing apart. by Shinganist

Against a distressed rectangular background that fades to black, one of USUGROW's trademark long-maned skull faces peers over its shoulder to look back at you. As always, the Japanese ink master manages to draw so much emotion out of these by-definition lifeless characters while incredibly only working with one color. 'SHINGANIST" is spelled out in all-caps right below. by Shinganist

A lotus blossom stems into a fountain pen, as USUGROW literally draws a comparison between the strokes of a pen and the process of creation and enlightenment. The horizontal text that cuts across the stem reads FOR LIFE, while the much smaller vertical text that is inscribed on the actual stem leading up to the nib of the pen reads THE SALVATION INK. by Shinganist

This masterful conceptual piece by Usugrow reminds us that the more things change the more they actually stay the same. The two extremes of humanity's history appear on either side of the image, natural wildlife on the left and a sprawling metropolis on the right, with two skulls merging in the middle sharing a third eye that reads "EVOLUTION" right above it. The text "Future Primitive" appears twice, once arced above the gleaming peak at the top of the image, and again in Usugrow's trademark font on the ribbon right below the skulls. An extra little backprint adds a little more homework for the conspiracy theorist code readers amongst you... by Shinganist

It might look like a flower at first look but a closer inspection reveals something a little more ominous at play. First of all, the center of the rose looks to actually be an eye or a venus fly trap just peering back at you... and when you follow the stem down, it looks alot more like barbed wire than anything botanic. The back print adds more to the mystery than it solves, with a continuation of the stem ending with a bee and a tiny flower on a noose... and you thought Jun Kaneko was just drawing a flower... by Shinganist

Artist Toshikazu Nozaka illustrates a masterpiece for this Shinganist series t-shirt, which features a small one-color vertical print on the front, and a huge full-color print on the back. The drawing of violent waves crashing amongst cherry blossoms throws back to a more traditional Japanese style, but hidden in the chaos is the characteristic shape of a human skull toying with your perceptions. The front print on the t-shirt features an original script that vertically reads "Shingan" to the best of our deciphering. by Shinganist

A rare, early tee print by USUGROW from his early work with the FIFTY24SF gallery, this one features a skull against a horizontal samurai sword transferring discomfort to you with his steely gaze. The text below him reads USUGROW JAPAN. by Shinganist

One of Usugrow's familiar long haired skulls looks off into the distance as black and white butterfly wings spread behind him. The famed japanese artist creates amazing textures in one color by masterfully shading his illustrations with tiny dots within thick, even strokes. The original calligraphy that dance over the skulls head reads on the first line, "LOVE HATE" and right below, the name of the artist "USUGROW". Another collectible for fans of his amazing work... by Shinganist

If ever there was an all-white New Era to get your hands on, this is it. Classic USUGROW imagery of a skull and sword are recreated on the front in a high quality embroidered felt applique (white felt, black thread), and an additional black embroidery appears on the bottom of the back two panels, reading "USUGROW-JAPAN" in the artist's unique and always recognizable script. by Shinganist

USUGROW gets to work on this New Era, flipping one of his most popular images and reincarnating it in hat form. His "Hair" illustration, featuring a skulled female tossing a black-stroked mane of wild hair, covers exactly half of this hat: 3 panels of black thread embroidery. The brim contrasts nicely against everything else in all-black. by Shinganist

I had originally seen this graphics as part of an art piece from the Shinganist showcase in London, and its finally made its way on to a t-shirt. Mozyskey puts it down with his magical calligraphicals that merge to form a bird-like shape that is printed off center to the right, with one wing wrapping slightly under the left arm. Now that's fly lettering. Sorry, I had to. by Shinganist
