High-Life is a traditional African style of music that originated in Ghana and rapidly spread throughout West Africa in the 1920's. Soul Power 74 is a timeless tune that was adapted from the Godfather of Soul himself, Mr. James Brown. After the original was recorded, his main man Mace-o did an instrumental version that amounted to a re-edit with additional dubbed out horns amongst other studio trickery. Dee Brown and his infamous Reebok Pump powered 'look-mom-no-eyes' dunk is paralleled in this graphic to the deity Mercury from Greek mythology. The young dunker gets winged feet in a teal print courtesy of the good folk at 'Acropolis', like Mercury's winged shoes talaria that helped him be the bad ass messenger that he was known to be. Also of interest, Mercury was also considered a god of abundance and commercial success... hmmm... perhaps a nod to Brown's own pimping of the Reebok brand, by needless pumping of his kicks prior to the contest winning dunk? What you probably didn't know though was that his original name was Gorpo, but having a "G" on his chest didn't really work out for the filmation artists because they often flip animation cells, and having a symmetric letter on the chest was more ideal... so they switched the name and Orko got his traditional "O" on his chest. However, lucky for Orko, he finally gets to rock both letters on his chest in this rendition by DRMTM, and lucky for us, those two letters spell "OG"!
