About D&N Mercantile

D&N Mercantile is more than a business; it is a labor of love that evolved from a hobby in 1993 by Dave and Nancy Hodge. After retirement from teaching in 1996 D&N Mercantile became a full-time sutlery operation dedicated to improving the variety and quality of Civil War Collectibles available.

We recognize that relationships and excellence are critical to our success and that quality and service are essential for customer satisfaction. As such we carry the finest wool, the heaviest tin ware, the thickest American leathers and the best cotton fabrics available.

We have established relationships with manufacturers in the United States and overseas that share our commitment:

* Our leather makers select the best top chrome leather, choosing only the thickest part of the hide, to minimize the potential, natural flaws and wrinkles that leather goods are susceptible too. All stitching is hand done and lasts longer than machine equivalents

* Our tin ware maker is in the east and is nationally known for his excellence, his craftsmanship and his attention to detail duplicating the correct styles.

* Our clothing maker is an accomplished tailor whose emphasis on quality is seconded only by his attention to detail. Buttons are sewn on all items and patterns are correctly reproduced. Special and regular orders can be produced in as little as one to two weeks and delivered in a timely manner - not the 6 to 8 weeks typically seen with other companies.

* We carry a large inventory of military manuals and reference books, including a variety of Civil War related books.
